    Position Summary

    WHLT in Hattiesburg, MS seeks Digital Journalist to write and perform on-air presentation of news stories. Provide direction to technical crew. Write news copy and travel to news scene to cover stories as needed. Maintain awareness of current events. Shoot and edit videotape of news, sports, and special features. Display high journalistic standards. Work independently when necessary. Work creatively with producers to package news stories for broadcast. Organize tapes for news broadcasts. Operate all editing and recording equipment. Formal education equivalent to a BS degree in Journalism, Communications or related field. Related experience will be evaluated by Company management and may be substituted on the basis of one year of experience equals one year of education. Two years of progressively responsible experience in a television newsroom preferred. Knowledge of journalistic standards as they relate to on-air presentation of news stories. Ability to react appropriately on camera. Ability to maintain professional personal appearance. Knowledge of personal computers and ability to learn new systems. Minimum of two years of News Videography experience. Link to examples of work required. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Formal education equivalent to a BS degree in Journalism, Communications or related field. Two years of progressively responsible experience in a television newsroom preferred. Knowledge of journalistic standards as they relate to on-air presentation of news stories. Related experience will be evaluated by Company management and may be substituted on the basis of one year of experience equals one year of education. Accurate and comprehensive writing skills as well as good communication skills. Knowledge of personal computers and ability to learn new systems. Knowledge of journalistic standards as they relate to video presentation of the story. Ability to work well with others. Capable of handling the physical and mental requirements.
