    Position Summary

    Special Projects Producer

    KOIN 6 a Nexstar Media Group. Television Station in Portland, Oregon is looking for an experienced Special Projects Producer.  We are looking for someone who knows how to find and develop powerful, compelling and highly promotable stories that fit within the KOIN brand. Exceptional writing skills and in-depth knowledge of current events is essential.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Supervise, research, write, produce and schedule content for all platforms including broadcast, online and mobile
    • Manage reporters, photographers; initiate stories including but not limited to government, politics, consumer, safety, social issues and financial dealings
    • Develop and maintain contacts and sources in the community to enterprise story ideas
    • Write online versions of reports and work with Digital department on web content
    • Maintain an active social media presence to build your brand and solicit original story ideas
    • Manage special projects and other duties as assigned

    Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Impeccable communication abilities with both internal and external constituents


      • Ability to plainly state objectives and give clear feedback, positive and constructive, as needed
      • Understanding of computer-driven research, public records requests, and legal, journalistic, and ethical issues involving investigative reporting
    • Excellent written and analytical skills
    • Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations
    • Financial management



    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, TV/film or the equivalent
    • At least 3 years’ experience preferred as an investigative journalist or special projects producer
    • Demonstrated newsroom leadership and management
    • Experience in script approval, with strong editorial judgment
    • History of award-winning investigative journalism preferred


    Training/Equipment: Utilize state-of-the-art television technology.

    Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Some travel may be required on an occasional basis.
