    Position Summary

    KSNT News is looking for a digitally-minded journalist who can keep our website and digital properties updated with urgent news, weather and sports people in Northeast Kansas want to know about. You will sit front and center in our web-first newsroom and help coordinate newsgathering activities for broadcast and digital platforms.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Identify local content of interest to viewers, preparing and posting journalistic stories and visuals on station website
    • Find ways to localize national and regional content, to help people in Northeast Kansas understand the impact to them
    • Keep station social media properties updated with urgent local and national news
    • Learn to be a backup newscast producer
    • Shoot video and conduct interviews for stories off site, as requested
    • Identify web extra material that producers can use to point viewers to the web
    • Communicate with viewers who post on our digital properties
    • Participate in coverage of big events, including severe weather and elections
    • Motivate staff to participate in digital and social media efforts
    • Help lead editorial meetings
    • Identify and call on exclusive and impactful stories that can be assigned to multimedia newsgatherers
    • Answer phone
    • Communicate effectively with coworkers, anchors, directors as well as field reporters
    • Write informative and detailed web platform stories including links and additional information viewers will find useful
    • Write compelling teases to bring viewers to our broadcasts
    • Edits video for broadcast as well as on-line use

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communication or journalism
    • Experience working inside a TV newsroom or daily newspaper
    • Ability to drive
    • Flexibility to work any shift, with some late notice of shift and schedule changes
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with both co-workers and the public
    • Proficiency with computers, tablets and mobile digital devices
    • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
