    Position Summary

    Work at a top-rated TV station in Austin, Texas (DMA 39) and be part of an innovative newsroom that values your ideas and encourages creativity.  KXAN is looking for a video editor who also has experience or interest in pursuing photojournalism.



    The Editor/Photographer combines artistic talent, technical expertise, and composition skills to produce video, stories and live shots that tell a visual story.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

    Capture video and edit stories for daily newscasts.
    Collaborate with producers on video elements of newscasts.
    Shoot and edit news video stories, including daily news and lifestyle show segments.
    Take direction from, and interact with, the assignment desk, producers, reporters, anchors and production control room personnel.
    Collaborate with reporters to obtain concise and accurate news stories.
    Maintain and operate camera equipment as well as company vehicle safely and efficiently.



    Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Ability to edit raw video to newscast form in a manner to complete the story for the viewer.
    Must be detail-oriented.
    Maintains positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments.
    Responds positively to feedback.
    Must present professional image as a representation of the station at all times.



    Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED is required. A Bachelor`s degree or equivalent in broadcasting, journalism, or related field preferred.

    Two years’ experience video editing required and experience with Avid Media Composer preferred. 

    Video photography experience preferred.


    Training/Equipment: Operating
    systems such as Avid Media Composer, live trucks and camera equipment.
