    Position Summary


    WFLA/News Channel 8 is looking for a full-time content producer for our digital platforms; responsible for news writing and editing digital stories, social media writing for engagement, sending mobile app push alerts, setting up livestreams and more. You must be able to work under pressure and deliver content in real-time.

    Qualified candidates should have experience in a newsroom, know how to find original content, demonstrate strong writing skills with an emphasis on relevance and accuracy. A practical knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, You Tube and experience on a content management system are needed. Candidates need to have a passion for news and online trends.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities



    • Identify breaking news and timely daily story opportunities in real-time and aggressively gather facts for digital and broadcast distribution.
    • Write, edit and search engine optimize digital story content and publish it into the digital content management system as it is gathered. This includes broadcast stories as well as digital only content.
    • Strong understanding of AP Style, including ability to rapidly edit and/or rewrite stories.
    • Clip video from newscasts and edit raw video for distribution on the website, mobile and social media.
    • Produce digital-specific content such as photo galleries, graphics, interactive maps and other elements to add to stories.
    • Manage digital live streams for web, mobile and social.
    • Send mobile app push alerts and manage mobile app content.
    • Work as a savvy social media expert by crafting content for station accounts that actively engage and interact with our audience, per the station's content strategy.
    • Monitor and evaluate digital and social media analytics programs to identify potential story ideas and make informed decisions for ranking content on the website and mobile app and scheduling social media posts.
    • Ability to work independently, and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment by remaining calm under pressure.
    • Participating in news meetings and working with news staff to develop digital content opportunities.
    • Perform other duties as needed and directed by newsroom leadership team.



    • BS/BA in Journalism or related discipline.
    • At least two years of professional digital content production experience preferred.
    • Experience working with a digital content management system preferred.
    • Experience with editing in Photoshop and Final Cut preferred.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holiday shifts.
