    Position Summary

    KRQE News (Albuquerque, NM), a #DigitalFirst operation with a focus on delivering local content on a 24/7 basis across all platforms, is seeking a Digital Crime Reporter/Content Producer to join the digital team in the news department. The Digital Crime Reporter/Content Producer will produce original, engaging content for publication on our digital platforms.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    • Reports well-written crime stories with self-edited video for online, describing the background and details of the events.
    • Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories
    • Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
    • Gatherers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
    • Pitches stories to digital managers and digital producers which are relevant to the local community
    • Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas
    • Discusses issues with digital producers and/or digital/news managers to establish priorities or positions
    • Checks reference materials such as public records, credible online sources, or news files to obtain relevant facts
    • Revises work to meet editorial approval
    • Shoots and edits news events and news reports
    • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
    • Expert understanding of, and engages professionally on social media
    • Weekend digital content producing with writing and editing stories for our digital platforms




     Requirements & Skills:


    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
    • Proficiency with Associated Press Style, Adobe Creative Suite and Content Management Systems
    • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
    • Superior mobile multitasker with an understanding of how news is consumed in the digital environment
    • Digitally proficient and self-educating on new applications and tech
    • Must be able to shoot and edit video for digital reporting
    • Strong grammatical skills with a demonstrated ability to edit and self-edit
    • Comprehensive experience with content management systems and SEO
    • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize assignments
    • Valid driver's license and good driving record
    • Flexibility to work any shift and weekends




    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    The Digital Crime Reporter/Content Producer must be able to conduct telephone or Internet video conversations, use email, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, you must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movement is required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
