Position Summary

Nexstar Broadcasting’s station, KRON4, the San Francisco Bay Area’s Local News Station is seeking a TV Broadcast Engineering Technician.  This person will have responsibility for the maintenance of all broadcast technology and equipment at the station and transmitter sites.


This is a Regular, Full-Time, Union (IBEW) position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in all aspects of the Engineering & Operations Departments
  • Needs to take a lead role in supporting a large & dynamic news operation
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, and network switches, servers, PCs, and IP based devices
  • Maintains all broadcast technology & equipment for the station
  • Assists in maintaining our transmission facility at Sutro Tower as well as our ENG receive sites
  • Assists to ensure station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal laws, as well as Closed Captioning regulations
  • Works closely with Engineering Management to implement new technologies
  • Repairs and coordinates fiber connectivity, production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems
  • Assists in maintaining station vehicle fleet, including satellite & microwave trucks
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 Requirements & Skills:

  • Associate Degree in Electronics, Communications, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience preferred
  • Minimum three years' experience with a television broadcasting environment
  • Ability to occasionally fill in with operational duties at the TV Station
  • Fluency in English; strong communication, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work extended hours, and respond to emergencies during off hours as needed
  • The ability to work weekends and or off hours and respond to station emergencies is essential

 Physical Demands & Work Environment:


The Engineering Technician must be able to stand, sit, reach, climb, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. The Engineering Technician must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. The ability to install long cables runs is required.  The ability to climb ladders is also required.
