    Position Summary

    WTNH/News 8 is looking for a self-starting part-time MMJ to work on our lifestyle show.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Details:

     

    The successful candidate must have MMJ skills including shooting, writing and editing vignettes for use on air and on line. Additionally, this position will also be responsible for assisting the producer with booking guests, going out on sales calls, writing segments for the show and all other duties as assigned related to the daily production of “Connecticut Style,” a daily marketer-friendly show that focuses on health, fitness, fashion, cooking and a variety of family friendly topics.

     

    The position requires a proven track record as a successful MMJ with a minimum of three years’ experience, preferably with direct on-camera experience. The ability to work as part of a unique production team with a co-host and other on-camera talent is essential. Must be able to assist the show producer with writing solid copy on a deadline basis, as required. Knowledge of Local and National trends is important, as is an ability to communicate extemporaneously about current issues.

     

    Requirements:  

     

    Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field preferred, with minimum of (2) two years’ experience as news reporter.

     

    Training/Equipment: Operate newsroom computer systems.

     

    Additional Information:   Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Travel will be required on a regular basis. Position requires the transport of equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. Position often requires work in extreme outdoor temperatures.

    • Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories

    • Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community

    • Discusses issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions

    • Revises work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
    • Shoots and edits news events and news reports
    • Produces and presents reports for all platforms
    • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
    • Writes stories for the web and other eMedia platforms
    • Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites
    • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

     

    Requirements & Skills:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
    • Fluency in English
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
    • Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)
    • Superior on-air presence
    • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
    • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
    • Flexibility to work any shift

     

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    The Multimedia Journalist Reporter must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  In addition, the Multimedia Journalist Reporter must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.  Repetitive movements are required.  Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
