Position Summary

KNWA-TV/KFTA-TV, NBC and FOX affiliates in Northwest Arkansas, are looking for an experienced Weekend Meteorologist and Digital Reporter to join our weekend news team!


We need a weather expert who understands knows how to build engaging and accurate forecasts with a complete weather story. The Weekend Met does weekend weather casts on both KNWA & FOX24, fills in for the Chief and AM Mets when needed, and works with the met team during severe weather. This role also showcases the Weekend Met as a weather reporter for our digital platforms, with Facebook lives and web-exclusive videos and reports during the week.


Northwest Arkansas is just east of tornado alley, so if severe weather is your bread and butter, this is a hot spot for you. With all four seasons, NWA is a great spot to hone your skills for snow, ice, flooding and tornado coverage. But don't worry - we have plenty of beautiful weather to track, too!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produces and presents weather reports for all platforms.
  • Ensures that all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Writes and delivers weather stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather programming and other content.
  • Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
  • Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
  • Fills in for other meteorologists during the week as needed.
  • Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
  • Writes and posts web stories detailing the local forecast when anchoring the weather.
  • Writes and posts news web stories to the station website and social media pages when assigned.
  • Check emails and social media messages for content and communicate with other staff.
  • Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites in a respectful manner.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.


 Requirements & Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in weather reporting or anchoring. (More or less depending on market size.)
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Experience with writing weather and/or news web stories.
  • Proficiency with computers, social media, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
  • Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.


Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This position must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  In addition, the position must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.  Repetitive movements are required.  Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
