Position Summary

WIVB-TV in Buffalo, NY is looking for a Digital Meteorologist with a track record of covering breaking weather, precision forecasting and confidently communicating on social media. This is not a traditional broadcast weather position; the Digital Meteorologist will produce weather content specifically for our digital and social media platforms. The Digital Meteorologist should be an innovative, tech-savvy, high-energy communicator with a compelling on-camera presence. Their focus will be producing sharable weather-centric content designed to inform our audience and drive digital traffic. Must have a degree in meteorology or related sciences and prior on-camera experience. Prior experience as a multi-media journalist is a plus.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, write, produce and present weather content for all WIVB digital and social media platforms
  • Respond to breaking and/or severe weather events as required to produce content for our digital platforms.
  • Work closely with the weather team to support and extend comprehensive weather coverage on our digital platforms.
  • Interact with our audience on station-branded digital and social media accounts.
  • Participate in promotional activities including public appearances as needed.


Requirements & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of the field of Meteorology and a proven track record of accurate forecasting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience with on-camera weather presentation preferred.
  • Strong command of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to shoot video and perform non-linear editing a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.


Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Digital Meteorologist must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results and safety of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  In addition, the Digital Meteorologist must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.  Repetitive movements are required.  Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
