KELOLAND.com is looking for an experienced journalist with a track record of impactful, enterprise reporting. The ideal candidate will be able to research and report through on-the-ground information gathering and phone calls. The digital data reporter will assist producers and reporters with brainstorming, finding, fine-tuning, fact-checking, and analyzing content. This person will work with our news team to identify, research, and investigate stories through data to craft new and innovative ways of storytelling through analysis and visualizations. Must be able to provide context and additional layers to a story for the online audience. The digital data reporter has the opportunity to elevate our journalism with his or her passion for digging deeper into a story through public records, FOIAs, and a desire to look beyond the news release to find the truth.
Digital data reporters need the ability to multi-task - balancing multiple stories while creating content KELOLAND.com and social media. The ideal candidate will think outside-the-box to craft stories with a unique presentation. Candidates should have strong grammatical skills with a demonstrated ability to edit and self-edit. Experience writing for an online audience and knowledge of AP style is a plus. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with content management systems and SEO.
Strong news writing skills with an emphasis on relevance and accuracy. This is not an entry-level position. Required experience includes journalism degree and 2+ years reporting for a print or online newsroom, as well as expertise with CMS workflow, digital storytelling tools and the FOIA process. Candidate must maintain knowledge of current events, online trends and social media. Should be familiar with ENPS, Adobe Photoshop and editing software along with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Prefer a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field. Must have a track record of effective collaboration with colleagues and cultivating sources to break news and generate story ideas.
