    Position Summary

    WZDX is seeking a Digital Systems Engineer who is responsible for performing regular maintenance on all digital, news gathering, and production equipment as well as preventative maintenance. The Digital Systems Engineer also assists the Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer in preforming their duties and other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsibilities:

     

    Maintains all broadcast technology and equipment for the station.

    Installs and tests new systems and technical infrastructure for the station.

    Minimizes service interruptions at times of equipment and/or system failure by rapidly identifying and implementing solutions.

    Sets up and operates equipment and transmission links during outside broadcasts.

    Installs and maintains the IT network, switches, data backups, work stations and printers.

    Interprets and implements instructions and requests from other station personnel.

    Emergency response to equipment failures and facility issues

    Communicates with members of the engineering team and other teams to effectively resolve equipment and system issues.

    After a training period, works afternoon to early evening for onsite support of news production.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

     

     

    Requirements & Skills: 

     

    Technical Degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education work related experience.

    Fluency in English.

    Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

    Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

    Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.

    Strong MS Office experience and proficiency. 

    Experience with digital transmitters, microwave equipment, and other broadcast-related equipment.

    Experience evaluating, selecting, installing, servicing and maintaining broadcasting industry equipment and information technology systems.

    Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

    Availability during Non-duty hours for emergencies and scheduled maintenance

    Ability to troubleshoot digital and RF systems.

    Ability to observe various workflows and understand the processes behind them.

     

    Not required but highly sought skills and experience:

     

    Experience working in a TCF or TOC environment.

    Experience with satellite antennas and receivers static and polar.

    Experience with fiber connectivity, production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems.

    Experience with digital electronics systems in a television broadcasting environment.

    Ability to troubleshoot digital and RF systems.

    Familiarity with SDI, ASI, DVB-S, and ATSC standards

     

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

     

    Ability to sit, stand, and/or squat to perform work for extended periods of time.

    Ability to lift and carry 50lbs a distance of 150 feet.

    Ability to work in all-weather environments including heat, rain, snow, inside, and confined spaces.

    Ability to properly manipulate all common hand tools and some power tools.
