Position Summary

KSEE24 and CBS47 are looking for an experienced data journalist with a track record of impactful, computer-assisted reporting, to join our growing digital team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who will be able to research and report through requesting data, data mining, and on-the-ground information gathering and phone calls. Expertise in public records requests is a must. The candidate should be adept in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge in scrapping programs is a plus.


The Data Reporter will pitch data stories and help identify where data gathering could play a role in digital or TV news stories. The ability to multi-task is a must as you balance gathering data from many sources for multiple stories.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


All reporters should have strong news writing skills with an emphasis on relevance and accuracy. 


This is not an entry-level position. Required experience includes journalism degree and 2+ years reporting for a print or online newsroom, as well as expertise with CMS workflow, and digital storytelling tools.


Candidate must maintain knowledge of current events, and knowledge of online trends and social media is a plus.


Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Data Reporter must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  In addition, the News Reporter must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.  Repetitive movements are required.  Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
