Position Summary

KLAS-TV the CBS affiliate in Las Vegas, Nevada, a #Digital First operation with a focus on delivering local content 24/7 across all platforms is looking for an assertive, competitive, Assignment/Digital Content Editor who has the ability to handle breaking news, manage crews, generate enterprise stories, and produce digital content in a fast paced newsroom environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be first on breaking news.
  • Must think Online/Social Media first.
  • Assign and manage multiple crews. 
  • Monitor news scanners and developing stories from all sources: Police, Fire, Court, News Websites, Twitter, Facebook.
  • Communicate with PIO’s and PR contacts. 
  • Develop sources and enterprise stories. 
  • Assign and write stories for all digital platforms.
  • Lead story meeting for their respective shift and provides a comprehensive list of possible news stories.  
  • Assists in development, planning and follow-up of news stories.

 Required Skills:

  • Strong news judgment, organizational and planning skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Able to responds quickly and calmly to changing circumstances. 
  • Positive approach and high level of drive to inspire and lead others around you. 
  • Able to work flexible hours, holidays, and weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Assignment/Digital Content Editor must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  In addition, the Assignment/Digital Content Editor must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.  Repetitive movements are required.  Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
