Position Summary

The Executive Producer supervises news content across all media platforms and line produces at least one hour of a live newscast

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Possesses the drive and ambition to lead the newsroom to high quality control standards
  • Understands how to win on the phone and all platforms – DIGITAL FIRST
  • Is a “show doctor” and can take an ordinary newscast and add breakouts, showcasing and writing that will make it extraordinary
  • Leads in the control room and is superb communicator in the booth and during the day
  • Excels at taking on projects from start to finish including staffing, equipment, management and the execution of projects for news, sports, weather and the web.
  • Can devise a multi-faceted, multi-platform strategy with the News Director to ensure consistent and high-quality execution of broadcast and web products.
  • Has superb news judgment
  • Understands how to get staff to adhere to processes and procedures
  • Is interested in creating a newsroom of the future that is digital first and works with broadcast
  • Can manage staff, utilize resources and handle scheduling
  • Has a broad and deep understanding of satellite trucks, microwave trucks, TVU backpack units, newsgathering cameras, Avid editor and iNews.
  • Thinks long-term but is nimble enough to respond to breaking news with fresh ideas
  • Ensures that all products are clean, accurate and journalistically sound

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Minimum four years’ experience in news operations.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Executive Producer must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  In addition, the Executive Producer must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.  Repetitive movements are required.  Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
